Churchill, Manitoba, the "Polar Bear Capital of the World, is in far north Canada. A small town of 800 that sits where the Churchill River flows into the Hudson Bay, it is the northern most port in Canada. Because the fresh water in the Churchill River freezes about 2 degrees centigrade sooner than the saltier water in the Hudson Bay, polar bears congregate here to get onto the ice sooner so they can begin to hunt seals, their primary prey. They haven't eaten in over four months as they impatiently wait for the ice to harden.
