Rice Fields. Scenes from the "highway"--the only highway-- in Bhutan. Two lanes, many switchbacks, much not paved. Houses are covered in clay, rice fields are terraced with only 7% of the land arable. 800,000 people in an area the size of New York City. Average altitude well above 7000 feet.
Chele La, Bhutan’s highest motorable pass (12,500 ft) is home to thousands of prayer flags. Mounting prayer flags as high as possible helps the prayers be carried by the wind to be heard by gods.
