Flying to Alaska in my homebuilt airplane
In 2005 I flew from Washington DC to Anchorage, Alaska, in my RV 8, two-seat, 1000 pound airplane. with two-other homebuilt aircraft. Having flown fighters in Viet Nam, I did as much of the flight as I could low-level, stopping a dozens to tiny airports to refuel and stay the night. 3800 miles each way thru the US and unsettled areas of northwest Canada. In Anchorage, we emptied the survival gear out of the backseats and our wives met us for the flying tour of Alaska. Then they flew home commercially, we loaded up our gear, and flew the 7 days home.
