Antarctica, South Georgia and the Shetland Islands, 2013
My second trip to Antarctica in 2013 on the Russian reserch vessel Akademik Ioffe included extensive shore time on the South Georgia and Shetland Islands--famous from Sir ernest Shackleton's failed expedition in 1914--and close interaction with the teeming wildlife that exists in these locations. Up close, millions of penguins, thousands of fur and elephants seals all allowing us--reluctantly-to share their beaches.
