Galapagos Wildlife
Large populations of Sea Lions live on many of the smaller islands in the Galapagos Archipelago, including those we saw on Espanola and Fernandina Islands. Fur Sea Lions, hunted almost to extinction, are doing well on Fernandina Island. In all cases they have no predators and showed no fear of us, mostly ignoring our presence. Occasionally one would approach, and we just sat still and did not interact. In one case one especially curious young adult nibbled the strap on my camera. While snorkeling, the young would come out and race around us, and if one dived down and turned circles, they would fly around us and mimic our movements.
